Olivia “Livie” Hamilton is engaged to Cooper Barnett, but during one irrational, emotional night, their lives will be changed forever. At their engagement party, Cooper sees his fiancée sitting alone, so he naturally wants to know what’s wrong. When Livie explains what really happened that night three months ago, after their argument and her car went off the road in a snowstorm, Cooper gets a sinking feeling. When he realizes that she doesn’t remember what happened because she may have been drugged, and that she’s getting blackmailed by the man who helped her, as well as pregnant and not sure if it’s Cooper’s baby or not…well…can it get any worse?
Senator Buckmaster Hamilton spoiled his six daughters after his wife’s death. The senator’s second wife is more interested in the success of her husband’s political career, hoping that he’ll become the next president of the United States, rather than acting as mother to his children. Buckmaster is angry with his long-dead wife for not being here for her daughters for the past twenty-two years. It looks like he might just get to tell her how angry he is…when she turns up alive.
The story unfolding in WILD HORSES is like an accident waiting to happen. You’re sure more trouble is coming as the circumstances build, escalating your expectations, but when the crap really hits the fan, you can’t read fast enough to the end.
Author B.J. Daniels writes the best western suspense. I love her Montana setting, a state I fell madly in love with the moment I stepped onto its soil. Ms. Daniels’ male characters are real men, strong and protective, with plenty of love to give the right woman. The women aren’t cupcakes, either. They can stand up to these men, who could walk all over them if they didn’t love them so much.
There were a few moments in this novel when I felt that one or two surprises were enough for this tortured family, and the reader, but the twists continued to build, layer upon layer. So many things I didn’t expect. I was shocked when the book ended because I wasn’t done reading yet! Great start as book one of the MONTANA HAMILTONS series.
WILD HORSES gallops through high-spirited suspense, exemplifying great characters, including the good, the bad and the despicable, with a hook so riveting that it will leave fans gasping for more.
