The Zest Quest

Review of Sage Creek by Jill Gregory

Jill Gregory’s books were recommended to me by some reader friends, and since SAGE CREEK is the first book in her LONESOME WAY series, I couldn’t resist starting there.

Sophie McPhee goes home to Lonesome Way, Montana to help heal the hurt and anger of her recent divorce in the familiar surroundings of her hometown. Friends and family encourage her to move on by dating again, but Sophie isn’t ready. She’d rather invest her time and energy into creating a new bakery in town, relying on what she knows and loves best. If she can just keep grandma and friends under control with their date-worthy recommends.

Rafe Tanner, now a single dad and rancher, was Sophie’s childhood crush, her best friend’s brother. Rafe always seemed to barely tolerate Sophie when she was young because his sister and Sophie were typical teenage girls, spying on the older brother. Now that they’re all grown up, their age difference doesn’t seem so significant. It’s obvious to Rafe that Sophie has matured into an attractive woman, inside and out.

SAGE CREEK is a sweet love story with a twist of suspense. Sophie’s pain is fresh, where Rafe’s heartache has eased over time. I liked the way that Rafe let Sophie decide what she wanted without pressuring her, making sure she was ready to take the next step with him. As they get reacquainted, will their pasts haunt them or heal them?

SAGE CREEK is an easy to enjoy first book in Jill Gregory’s LONESOME WAY series. With more than one love story in this small town, it will be fun to see how the residents influence the next couple. Next up is Travis and Mia’s story in book two, LARKSPUR ROAD.
