The Zest Quest

REVIEW: The Party Girl by Tamara Morgan

I was given this book to read for free in order to participate in a survey from the publisher. It’s not the style of book that I normally read, but in the end, I had such a great time reading this book and will definitely try another by Tamara Morgan in the future.

At first, Kendra wasn’t a likeable heroine at all to me. She’s flippant and outrageous, enjoying men strictly for sex and fun, but not really anything else. She seems superficial and uncaring, only out for her own enjoyment, and not really caring who she hurts in the process. It’s all about getting what she wants and being completely honest about her choices. She’s smart, beautiful and overly independent, so much so that she scares most men who might consider her relationship material.

I almost stopped reading because Kendra annoyed me so much. That I could be convinced of her merit as the book progressed and really like her as a character by the end, made THE PARTY GIRL a book that surpassed my expectations.

Noah is the complete opposite of city girl Kendra. He’s an off-the-grid loner and best friend to Lincoln who has had an infatuation with Kendra for quite some time. In her effort to help Lincoln, when once again he gets himself into trouble, Kendra meets Noah when she has to take the injured Lincoln somewhere for medical attention and safety.

Noah lives like a backwoodsman without modern conveniences by choice. That he and Lincoln are friends is Kendra’s first clue that there’s more to Noah than what’s on the surface. Noah completely intrigues Kendra but keeps himself off limits to her because Lincoln thinks he’s in love with her. Noah and Kendra’s attraction to each other is undeniable and just how long they can resist each other becomes an intriguing part of the story.

Each character’s career choice is well-written and seemed well-researched. I’m especially fond of off-the-grid type stories and Noah’s character is what pulled me into the story. His journey and how he fits so well with the exact opposite of him in Kendra is emotionally riveting. The scenes with a goat are so very funny but the humor just gets better and better, all the way until the final page.

Engaging, smart, sassy and sarcastically funny, Tamara Morgan creates a great conflict between two people where the humor in their situation is completely natural, and quite often, laugh-out-loud funny. Great story with an emotional happy-ever-after that I wasn’t expecting. Also reiterates the fact that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Thanks to the publisher for bringing this author and book to my attention. I surprisingly enjoyed it and look forward to more by Tamara Morgan.
