The Zest Quest

Catching Up – What’s Next?

Catching Up – What’s Next seemed to be an appropriate blog title to explain the barrage of book reviews – more variety coming! Like almost everyone else I know, I’ve had pandemic brain and world event shell-shock. It’s my goal to catch up on my review obligations, so that I can enjoy this summer without guilt. I hate being late, but events beyond my control staved my reading and killed my creativity. I’ve felt a surge come on this week, so I’m writing as fast as I can from the notes I took all last year. That means I’m rereading, too, so it’s crazy but fun!

Mr. Carnivore and I are doing well – just living life a bit more secluded than normal. That being said, we did spend several weeks running away from home and enjoying the tiny life in our new camper last summer. It was the safest entertainment we could find, as well as a really good way to chill out in the woods. My hope is to share some photos from our adventures in the future.

Speaking of the Carnivore – he was happy that we went off the vegetarian kick for a season and ordered the Carnivore Farm Share last summer from Fresh Fork. We split it with my parents. Both families finished summer with a freezer full to get us through winter as well. Unfortunately, they’re not offering it this summer, so I have to decide if we’ll try the mini share, or something completely different. I really like being part of a prepared bag I can pick-up weekly from local farmers. I like how it organizes my menu. And, I love how it forces my meals to be more creative.

One of our absolute favorite things is to go out to dinner. Another thing that was put on hold for the last year. BUT – that’s actually good news because I spent it perfecting some new recipes while taking lots of photos of the creations. Which means some fun sharing here on the blog soon.

In looking back over my photos from the last year, most of them were of our new gardens and food, which made me laugh. We had so much time on our hands that we created 4 new gardens. Most of which we used to grow food. Put that with our community garden plots, which I increased by one, and I felt like an official Urban Farmer last year. I grew more food last summer than I have ever in my life.

I was pretty shocked that I was physically able to do all that, so I guess we’re expanding this year. We’re waiting for our fence to be built, then we’ll work on prepping more new beds.

2020 was the year when everything we owned broke. We spent the year fixing, buying, and hiring contractors to get us back to normal. I pray that 2020’s blessings are done and we can celebrate the positives of 2021.

That’s it in a nutshell — bear with me as I inundate you with book reviews. They’re super eclectic, so my hope is that everyone will find something intriguing. BUT, I promise that I have lots of fun in my brain to share with you. I’m motivated to look for beautiful places to photograph to add some cheer, too. That’s my biggest goal for 2021 – spend more time showing you my Life Through the Lens.

How are you doing? What’s your creative plan for 2021? Let’s share and motivate each other!
