We read this book as a group read to discuss at Romance Junkies readers so I read it first before getting to the first three books in this series which are waiting in my print TBR Mountain Range. That wasn’t a confusing way to start the series at all, so don’t be afraid to try this one out of order.
Savannah Perry is the social director at a retirement community where she works and lives. Not old enough to be retired herself, she has found a home more like family in this community of residents who have adopted her as their own. Not having a family has been hard on Savannah over the years and it has taught her to appreciate the one she has developed amongst these kind-hearted, as well as quirky, neighbors.
Tristan McMillan thinks he has his life goals all figured out until he meets Savannah Perry. Welcoming a new career after his experience as a lawyer, Tristan takes over his grandfather’s failing retirement property. A vision of what it could be, as well as the challenge to prove to his grandfather his business savvy, has Tristan focused on much more than anyone else imagines.
Will a retirement community in crisis survive in Cricket Creek when profit is the end goal?
WHISPER’S EDGE is the fourth book in author LuAnn McLane’s CRICKET CREEK series and takes place within a failing retirement community of mobile homes. I couldn’t help but love these engaging residents as they try to protect and encourage their well-loved social director. Savannah fits right in with her own quirky personality, unmarried and anticipating her thirtieth birthday with no prospects for romance until Tristan McMillan rescues her from a pool mishap. Their attraction is immediate but can Savannah get past the idea that he’s her new boss?
WHISPER’S EDGE has a secondary romance between Savannah’s mother-like friend, Kate, and the handyman, Ben. It’s really a nice change to have an older couple finding love as a secondary romance, and it added to the story for the couples to double-date. Kate and Ben ended up being my favorite characters, creating some entertaining laugh-out-loud moments and I’m hoping for a few more of my favorite older residents to find romance in the future.
Cricket Creek is a cute small town with challenges very much like most small towns today. The residents’ positive attitude and ways of helping one another through a financial crisis will make you smile. Author LuAnn McLane creates small town scenes that are easy to imagine because they’re so very much like real small town life. Come on in and sit a spell, you’ll taste the craft beer and want to find karaoke near you.
